From Spotlight to Science Chats: A Speaker’s Experience at FEMS Micro Milan 2025
2025.07.29
Attending FEMS Micro Milan 2025 was an exceptionally vibrant and unique experience that surpassed all expectations. As one of the largest and most prestigious gatherings in the field of microbiology, organized by the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS), the conference brought together over 2,000 participants from more than 90 countries. This diverse and active environment provided an outstanding platform for sharing cutting-edge research, exchanging ideas, and cultivating global collaboration across disciplines, cultures, and career stages.
The event kicked off with an elegant opening ceremony that featured a live concert—a perfect blend of science and culture that beautifully set an inspiring tone for the days ahead. From the very beginning, the atmosphere was warm, engaging, and full of energy. It was clear that FEMS Micro Milan 2025 would be much more than a traditional scientific conference—it was a dynamic celebration of the global microbiology community, fostering connection, curiosity, and a collective drive to push the boundaries of knowledge.
One of the highlights for me was the opportunity to present my research as a speaker in the title of “Antimicrobial Resistance and Genetic Diversity of Salmonella in Aquatic Ecosystems:
A Thai Canal Study” in the wastewater-based epidemiology session. Standing before a large, diverse audience was both humbling and exhilarating. The room was filled with curiosity and enthusiasm, and I was grateful for the chance to share my work and exchange ideas with so many brilliant minds from across the world.
Beyond presenting, I had the opportunity to attend a wide variety of fascinating sessions covering topics ranging from antimicrobial resistance and microbial ecology to host–pathogen interactions, emerging technologies, and synthetic biology. These sessions not only deepened my understanding of key concepts but also introduced me to pioneering research and novel approaches that I hope to integrate into my own work.
The poster networking sessions, held in a relaxed atmosphere with light snacks and wine, were another highlight. These casual gatherings provided the perfect opportunity to have in-depth discussions with peers and senior researchers alike. I enjoyed exchanging thoughts, learning about diverse projects, and networking with researchers from different backgrounds and specialties.
FEMS Micro Milan 2025 was more than just a conference—it was an inspiring journey of discovery, dialogue, and connection. Beyond the academic enrichment, the experience offered invaluable opportunities to build new connections, spark ideas for future collaborations, and gain fresh perspectives from a genuinely international community. I returned home not only with new knowledge and insights but also with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement for future scientific exploration. The event served as a powerful reminder of how scientific gatherings can do more than just advance research. They have the unique ability to inspire, unite, and connect people across borders, creating a lasting impact both professionally and personally.
