I recently had the incredible opportunity to travel to Thailand—a trip that beautifully blended meaningful research with a much-needed spiritual and emotional recharge. It was a truly unforgettable experience that nourished both my work and my heart.

This journey wasn’t just about science (though that was a big part of it!). I returned to my home country to collect valuable samples for our ongoing research project, supported by the JSPS KAKENHI Wakate grant I was honored to receive earlier this year. I also had the pleasure of visiting my fantastic collaborator at Mahidol University. Our in-person discussions were highly productive—we exchanged ideas, aligned our goals, and made exciting plans for the next phase of the project. It was incredibly energizing to collaborate face-to-face.

Beyond the lab coat and notebooks, this trip was also a deeply personal homecoming. I had the joy of spending quality time with my family—and, even more special, I brought my Japanese significant other along to experience Thailand for the first time. Sharing my culture—introducing Thai traditions, food, and everyday life—and creating unforgettable memories together was an absolute highlight. We enjoyed heartfelt conversations with family, explored scenic spots, indulged in countless flavorful dishes (yes, mango sticky rice and tom kha kai included!), and soaked in the vibrant energy of the country I grew up in.

This experience reminded me how fortunate I am to pursue the work I love while staying connected to the people and places that shape who I am. I’m excited to see where this journey leads next!
